Never Forget. 9/11. Always Remember . Common phrases we see every year, on this day. We are all connected to the events of September 11, 2001 somehow. We either knew someone who was a first responder, someone who was on a plane, someone who lost someone close to them.. the list goes on. And while it’s absolutely 100% a very sobering, sad reminder, the flooding of social media with the video footage of the planes hitting the towers, the towers crumbling, people running for their lives – it’s a whole lot to take in every year, all day long. There is no reason we can’t honor those lost by posting about it other than on the anniversary. And no, none of us will ever forget what happened or where we were. But taking away from those who were directly effected is unfair. SO unfair.  I will spare all the details, but 18 years ago I witnessed a childhood friend find out his dad was on one of the planes. We didn’t talk about it much until high school (I was in 7 th grad...

Falling Back into Routine

There is a very bold line between my friends when it comes to seasonal changes. There are some who are dreading the coming season, while others cannot wait to for it. I am on the cannot wait for it side - as the summer is never a time I feel I can function at my best. I've seen so many negative posts on social media, taking digs at people who love this time of year. Here's the deal homies - everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you're one of those people who is taking digs at people on social media, you're ultimately shaming people for what they like. If you don't like the change, or are wishing for summer to stick around a little longer, then embrace your feelings. But making others feel like their opinion is wrong - is wrong.  For a very pale, borderline allergic to the sun girl - the summer time can often turn me into a hermit. Unless its sunrise or sunset, I can't do much outside. For the first time in my life I managed to contract heat stroke twice...

"Why Are You The Way That You Are?" - Michael Scott

I was not a fan of The Office when it first started. I didn't give it a second thought. However, 5 years ago, a guy I was seeing told me to give it a try... so I did. To say I speak in fluent quotes from this show is an understatement. Mix that with my ability to quote F*R*I*E*N*D*S and well... you're in for a treat.  This isn't a discussion about how I have the ability to quote classic NBC TV shows. Sorry.. we can talk about that another post 😊 I had a conversation with one of my closest friends a few weeks back about how I feel left out and stuck while everyone is off living their lives with their person. She told me that she understands where I am coming from, but that I am living my life on my terms, and am a part of things a lot of people don't understand and it reignited the desire I've had to share WHY I am the way that I am.  For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a part of a large group of incredible people. I wanted to feel like I...

Reader Request: Travel

Image
A while back, I posted on my instagram story that I was looking for ideas for blog topics that would peak interest from my readers. I got 2 requests, so this is the first of the two.  If there's one thing I love about my life right now, it's the ability to literally pick up and go wherever I want. No responsibilities holding me from doing what I want - yes I have a full time job, but I am able to take time off whenever I so choose. No family responsibilities, no significant other to check in with. Just me. (sure, I'd LOVE to have someone to adventure with, but I love doing things on my own right now.) Last summer, I was able to pull off a huge birthday surprise for my mom. Dad and I started talking about it back in January of last year.. because it was a big milestone birthday for her! We planned it all out - and then had to wait for the day to come. While I LOVE surprising my parents, this one takes the cake.  We spent 4 days camping (in a 5th wheel trailer, com...

For the Uninspired

It has been a WHILE since a post has been written. And this week, there will be 2 new posts!! ((not including this one)) Life gets crazy and when I am not feeling particularly inspired, I refuse to write. I will not allow mediocre work to come from a place of turmoil. Just not in my nature!  I stopped making time to sit and map out posts because I felt like my voice didn't matter. I didn't feel like sharing anything because no one would care that I had anything to say. This, dear friends, is a taste of what goes on in this brain of mine when I am feeling rather down. I have been wanting to share more content on all my social media outlets, but I feel like my life isn't near as exciting as everyone else's, so who would watch my content?!  Ladies and gents.. this is where we all need to cut. the. shit.  Comparison is the killer of literally everything.  Read that again.  Comparing your life to someone else's will kill your motivation, your drive, ...

Happy Birthday!!

Have you ever blinked, and a year has passed?  Like, you woke up one morning and its a year later, and a whole lot has changed?  That's how I feel lately, and while I am so elated with how things are rolling along in my life, it wasn't always like this.. and it hasn't been all sunshine and roses. Which you know - if you've kept up with these posts!  This blog turned a year old YESTERDAY, and I am so excited to celebrate! Over the last year I have been consistent in updating when the information is right and the flow just works. This blog, while I was hoping would evolve into something crazy exciting, has stayed right on course with how it started. Something that has become very important to me is personal development and self awareness. I try to bring attention to this journey in every post, in some way, shape, or form. How can we be better versions of ourselves if we are stuck living out our old habits?  The last year has been quite a roller coaste...

Sticking it to the Stigma

There has been a lot of talk lately surrounding mental health. This post may have been inspired by seeing A Star Is Born for the second time and weeping in public AGAIN. Some people roll their eyes at it, because "another story about mental health" is taking over their feeds. Well, friends, I am here to tell you that mental health is so important, it needs to be a priority for all of us.  What does that even mean? Do you take care of yourself? Or do you just run yourself ragged until you can't physically stay awake? Do you take time for you - to do something that you love and makes you feel awesome? Or do you ignore all that because everyone else needs something and you can't stop until everyone else is taken care of? Do you listen to your thoughts? Or do you ignore how you feel because you don't want to burden anyone?  I have always been that person - that takes care of everyone else before I take care of myself. I need to be sure that my friends and ...
