Day 3 - Share a Song or Quote That Lifts You Up and Makes You Smile
This is a tough one for me - because there are a LOT of songs or quotes that lift me up and make me smile. I am a walking juke box - it happens.
If I had to pick a quote that lifts me up and makes me smile? I would have to say the newest addition to my left arm. "Life is tough, but so are you." Having it in my parents' handwriting makes it all the more special. They have been so supportive and understanding through every up and down in my life. When I was struggling with the trauma and stress of this summer, they were quick to listen, and help calm me down. When I call crying because the wind blows the wrong way, they quickly remind me to shut up. Life is all about balance here!
Having this tattooed on my arm has been a wonderful reminder. I have an incredible group of friends (okay they're basically family..) who jumped to help anyway they could when everything went to hell this summer. Having them to lean on through it all is probably the only way I stayed semi-stable.
I had to navigate a LOT on my own. Finding places to crash, but not overstaying my welcome. Getting my insurance company to help me out with a hotel stay. Looking for an apartment with no time to spare. All while trying to keep life as normal as possible. I am a creature of habit, and don't do well when there is no structure or plan. I know this about myself, thanks to the work I did through therapy as well as on my own.
The quote tattooed on my arm is a reminder that I can get through anything thrown at me - it may not feel like it at first, but I will get through it.
In terms of a song.. (I know it says song OR quote.. I am an overachiever.) it would have to be Good Life by OneRepublic. This song has been a life anthem for me as long as I can remember. It reminds me to be grateful for everything in my life - good or bad - and to CELEBRATE life. Something we are often quick to forget. Life happens, it gets busy FAST, but if we can't stop and appreciate our lives, and celebrate the wins AND losses - are we even living?
As a society, we are so quick to hit autopilot and roll. Just go through the motions. Get up at the same time every day, grumble through getting ready, drive to work (or walk to the next room), work, get in the car, drive home, sit on the couch, eat dinner, go to bed. Wash, rinse, repeat.
How boring!
Taking a step back and adjusting your thinking could vastly adjust your outlook on LITERALLY everything. How exciting that you GET to get up and you GET to go to work and you GET to eat dinner at home. Instead of an "I have to..." mindset, switch it to an "I get to..." and see how fast things will adjust for you!
What song or quote lifts you up and makes you smile?
