Day 26 - Where is Your Favorite Place In the World?
The corny answer? Anywhere with Mike.
The less corny answer? The John F. Kennedy Library in Boston. Closely followed by Disney World and my parents' house.
The JFK Library and I have quite the history. When I was a child, I would often spend a week in the summer with my maternal grandparents. Granddaddy volunteered at the Massachusetts Archives on Tuesdays, so the week I stayed with them, I got to go! The Massachusetts Archives is located in the same area of Boston as the JFK Library.
When Granddaddy would take me with him on Tuesdays, he would also be sure to point out the JFK Library. I learned all I needed to (at that age) from him, and one afternoon he took me into the library. A museum with everything in it from JFK's presidency. The first Catholic president happened to be from Boston - how stinking cool! I went back often as an adult. It brought me a sense of peace and happiness. I feel so at home there. I've taken a lot of my friends and family there, and often tell them I will provide the best tour possible (even though I don't work there).
Located across the way from the JFK Library, is the "rainbow tank" - which also has a significance in our family. It used to be owned by BostonGas, which Granddaddy worked for and retired from. It now says National Grid.
So when we saw it from the highway, we knew we were almost to their house. When Granddaddy died in 2017, it became more of a reminder to me that he'll always be a part of who I am, and had a big hand in my love of history. The memories we made at the archives, and later the JFK library will always be so special to me.
