Day 24 of 30

 We are down to the final week of this challenge. How exciting!! 

 Today's discussion: Prize possession you can't live without

 I could pull the typical "my phone" card.. because it's true, I can't live without my phone. It's the only way anyone can get in touch with me, as I don't have a land line. 

 But this is far more near and dear to my heart.. 
I cannot live without my book collection. 


I have always been a bookworm, from a young age. I would spend my summer breaks at the library taking out a stack a books every few weeks - only to read them all and bring them back for more. 

I have always had an extensive collection, mixed with everything from trashy romance novels to biographies. If my mind is in the right place, I can very easily focus my attention on a book and finish it in under a week. Lately, I have been very unsettled and unable to focus on anything that requires brain activity after work, so I haven't been able to dive into a good book. Hopefully over the next month or so of transition, I can get back on the book reading train! 

I miss the days when I could burn through books on books on books - and didn't have responsibilities. To be a child again, huh? 

Reading is an incredible escape from reality. It allows your mind to wander to places you've never dreamed of, and makes you think about things on a deeper level. It's an excuse to enjoy some quiet time alone, engulfed in another world. It's so therapeutic to just relax and enjoy a well written work of art.

 I went out to dinner with a couple of girlfriends last night and we had quite a few great conversations. Sometimes you just need to go out with some friends who accept you for who you are, without expectations, and just be present.  To set the scene here - all of us are mid 30s. Two of the 3 of us that were out are married, and I am on my way to the altar in just over 6 months (holy crap), and two of the three of us are also moms (spoiler alert: I am not a mom...yet).  Out of respect of my friends' privacy I am not going to use names. I was not a fan of The Office when it first started. I didn't give it a second thought. However, 5 years ago, a guy I was seeing told me to give it a try... so I did. To say I speak in fluent quotes from this show is an understatement. One year later...

  It's been a year since my life was completely turned upside down. 365 days since I experienced an attack by nature in what I thought was supposed to be my safe space.  Life has a wonderful way of putting you on the path you are meant to be on. There is no denying that - and I will die on that hill. After much reflection and healing, it’s time to talk some truth. I will be clear - this is not to put anything out in the world that wasn’t already there.  Healing can be messy. Healing can hurt while it is in process. Healing is not linear.
