What?! Why?
Day 30 of 30
We made it!
The final topic for discussion this month: Why blogging? What's the meaning of the name?
Why did I want to start blogging?
Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a writer. I wanted to write a ton of novels and share my creativity with the world. I started numerous novels, but never finished them. I would lose steam after I ran out of ideas - which was actually me just being lazy and not using my brain. I started blogging in college and loved how free and non-structured it was. I was able to get thoughts out and share exciting things that were happening on a platform that would not only reach my close family and friends, but also those on the internet that were looking for something similar. The one I ran in college basically cataloged my day to day as a senior in college - a lot of first "lasts." I didn't hold anything back, it was so exciting and SO scary.
After graduation I hung up my blogging chops until I reached my heaviest weight - and once I started to see results with the program I was using, I blogged about it for 24 days. Everyone LOVED that blog. When I left my previous employer 10 weeks ago, I had a serious shift in my outlook on life. I was excited again - I was happy again. I wanted to discuss some issues I struggled with, celebrate some victories on a more public forum, and reach an audience that otherwise doesn't discuss much openly. I had a renewed outlook on life and wanted to share it with the world - and after 10 weeks, that hasn't changed. Some days are harder than others, and I still struggle with a touch of depression and anxiety (MUCH less than I have in the past 6 years). But at the end of the day, if my discussions about otherwise taboo topics helps someone else in a similar struggle, then I am doing something right in the world.
We live in a technology centered world now (hold on... Grandma Gato is getting her walker out!) and everyone turns to the internet for answers. No one talks to each other anymore, there is no 3 hour phone call to catch up with someone you haven't seen or heard from in months. The name of the game now is instant gratification - which is a blessing and a curse. This blog was created for those in my social circle and beyond. I am not a celebrity, I am not a licensed therapist, not even a life coach. I speak from my heart. Something that was so tarnished for so long, I needed something like this to fix it. I was living in such a dark and scary place that I couldn't see how amazing this life truly is. How I needed this to get myself back.
Thank you for taking part in this journey with me, friends. I cannot wait to see what the future of Anything about Everything holds!
What is the history behind the name of the blog?
As a history nerd, I love talking about stuff like this! As I mentioned above, I had a few other blogs before this one. I gave up on them because I felt they had served a purpose for a short amount of time, and they wouldn't grow further than that. When I came up with this blog, I didn't want to pigeon hole it as something that would only discuss one topic. I am not a single stream conversationalist. As a female (sorry ladies, it's true - we jump conversations all the time) and a passionate human being, I couldn't nail down one thing I wanted to focus on.
After posting about it on Facebook, one of my very close friends commented the best answer. Post about what I want, and if it pertains to someone else, they will read it. Just be myself. Which is what Anything about Everything is all about. There's no judgement here, no bad blood, no negativity. I am hoping to promote positivity, goal setting, difficult discussions in a safe (ish.. it IS the internet) environment, and true inner happiness. I will never say that I am perfect, and I know this blog will never be cookie cutter. It's real, raw, and honest. Some things I have struggled with over the last 6ish years.
After some thinking, Anything about Everything stuck as the title of this blog. And as it suggests, we will discuss anything about everything. If you ever have a topic you'd like to discuss on here or see mentioned, do not be afraid to comment or email me. I am happy to help you on your journey through life as much as the next person. We are on this earth to make it a better place, and it starts with us. If we are not happy with ourselves, what can we do to fix our unhappiness to radiate positivity and true happiness? What can we do to share our expertise with the world? What can we do to put good vibes out to get them back tenfold?
Smile, readers. You're reading this which means you get another day to live this amazing thing we call life. Do one thing today that will improve your overall health and wellness. Have a book you've been dying to crack open? Do it. Need to take a break and enjoy some sunshine? Do it. No one is in control of your life - except you. Remove yourself from situations where you are not allowed to grow or are not appreciated, and put yourself where you want to be. Smile more, laugh often. Surround yourself with a group of people that want to see you grow and succeed. Be that person for others.
And one last thing...
If someone's done you wrong, forgive them. No one is perfect. If it's worth saving, try and fix it. If not, let them go. We hold onto such negative grudges because of miscommunication and assumptions. LET IT GO.
