Nerd Alert!
Day 3 of 30
Today's topic: favorite book
This is hard, because as a nerdy bookworm I have so many favorites. Because my true passion lies in history, I find a lot of my favorite books are historical fiction or biographical. As I just mentioned, this is hard for me to choose just one, but I chose one that has stuck out to me in the last few years, and really made me think.
My favorite book: 11.22.63 by Stephen King.

Anyone that knows me, knows that the horror genre is NOT something I care to involve myself in. I took a chance on this book, because of the topic at hand. The assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas, TX on November 22, 1963. Without giving too much of the book away, here's a quick synopsis.
Jake, an English teacher in Maine, befriends a diner owner who found a rabbit hole in his diner closet. When you get to the bottom of the stairs, you're in Maine in 1958. Jake goes through 1958, and sets out for Dallas to try and stop the assassination of JFK. Yes, that means he has 5 years in this alternate world to get to Dallas. In the real world? It's only a few minutes, no matter how long you're in the rabbit hole. The only stipulation is that once you go back down the rabbit hole after coming out of it, you reset everything you did.
Stephen King is a very talented writer. I never read any of his books before this one, and do not plan on doing so anytime soon. But after researching it, I was obsessed. He started writing this book in the 1970's, after JFK was assassinated, but had to stop because the research was so extensive. He goes into some very in depth details about Lee Harvey Oswald's life that was never really discussed in the investigations at the time of the event.
This was also a mini movie series on Hulu. In all honesty, I was so disappointed in the mini series. I am a tough critic when it comes to movies/shows made from books. I didn't enjoy the changes they made for the series, because it wasn't nearly as gripping as the book. But, the book is always better than the movie adaptation, so I had pretty low expectations to begin with!
