Guess I'm Fallin' For You
Day 5 of 30
Seasons.
Sometimes they change every few months, sometimes (in life) it happens in a matter of weeks.
This is about a favorite season, so I'll stick to the basics.
Favorite season for Gramma Gato?
Fall. Hands down.
I wish it was fall every day, with minimal rain and a constantly beautiful landscape. A big bonus to living in New England is the ability to leaf peep during peak leaf peeping time, and not go too far to do so. There are your rather "basic" fall activities like apple picking, pumpkin carving, plaid/flannel attire, and early fall fires with friends.
Fall was always a very busy season for my family. Between 2003 and 2009, they were FILLED with marching band commitments and sports. We spent many nights on the football field, in a chilly dew, putting finishing touches on the marching show for the upcoming competition. We were sitting in the stands during football games trying to amp up the crowd (sometimes succeeding.) or walking around seeing fellow classmates while we repped what can only be described as a heinous (but incredibly warm) band uniform. For the record, all 4 years of high school, our uniforms had capes. So we were basically a group of superheroes. Bringing entertainment to every Methuen High football game. When we spent weekends competing, it was as a unit, and made some great memories before graduation.
When we weren't on a football field, we were probably driving up to Vermont to visit a little priory my parents enjoyed going to. We'd pack a picnic lunch and spend the day in downtown Weston, VT. The scenery to and from this incredible place, complete with the most precious monks, was something I am so grateful my parents made a tradition.
Then there's the smell of fall. You know what I'm talking about. That sweet apple laced smell that once it hits your nostrils, you know what's coming. When you get a whiff, it brings you back to a moment or memory from a fall in the past. It's such an incredible time of year.
The weather (here in New England at least) is usually a cool high 50s/low 60s. Which means cute sweaters, boots, vests. No winter coats, no cold weather gear. Just beautiful weather. Sure, it rains. But when we get a nice string of weather, it's perfect.
And we can't forget the real reason that fall is the best time of year...
PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING
I am kidding - for the love of God I am kidding. I do enjoy pumpkin flavored things, but lets not get carried away (I'm looking at you every coffee company ever...)
The true reason this season is the best over any other? Thanksgiving. What better way to celebrate an amazing time of year than with a holiday centered around eating?! And if you, reader, hate Thanksgiving... thank you for reading, please leave.
HAHAHA! I am so kidding.
Fall, while it seems to symbolize the death of the previous season and a transition into a new one, is a season of new birth too. It's allowing the previously green plants to turn into shells of their former selves, and celebrates that transition.
What's your favorite season? Why?
